What a price comparison for clothes has to get right

Comparing electronics is straightforward because a model number is printed on the box. Clothes hide their identifiers. A retailer may rename a style, a marketplace seller may list it under a description of their own, and the brand's article number is often missing from the page. Listings that read as the same piece can turn out to be a mainline coat and its outlet sibling, or the same coat in a colorway that carries a different price.

The figures themselves are not equivalent either. Prices from different countries can have different currencies and fees; inspect each seller’s checkout terms. Turning a list of prices into a decision

Start with the region tag on each route. Remode shows store links relevant to your country, but shipping to you is not the same as pricing for you: a store in another currency charges in its own, and the conversion your card applies is not visible in the app. Next, look at who the seller is. A brand store, a department store and a marketplace seller can list the same style at different prices with very different return handling.

Then add what the sticker excludes: shipping, duty on a cross-border parcel and the cost of sending back a wrong size. A second-hand listing can change the comparison; read its condition and seller terms before deciding whether it is the option you want.

Getting sharper comparisons

• Use the retailer's own product photo when you have it. A clean studio image produces more exact results than a styled street shot.
• Check the style or article number on each store page. Matching numbers settle the variant question faster than matching photos.
• Compare like with like: new against new, then second-hand against second-hand, and only then decide between them.

When the comparison stays thin

A piece stocked by a single retailer produces a list with a single entry, and there is nothing to compare except that store's own sale calendar. Brands that sell only through their own website fall into this group, as do marketplace one-offs and past-season items that have left every catalog. Remode will then show similar pieces, which are useful as alternatives but are not a price comparison of the same garment. Regional gaps appear as well: a store that does not ship to you is not among the routes shown, so a lower price abroad may exist without appearing.
